Montréal, May 30, 2016 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes Quebec’s new aerospace strategy unveiled today by Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard and the Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation and Minister responsible for the Digital Strategy, Dominique Anglade.
“Today’s announcement is great news for the city’s businesses and economy,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Over time aerospace has become a pillar of our economy. The government’s approach needed to be updated to reflect the evolution of the industry. This strategy sets out structural efforts, in particular supporting the growth and internationalization of SMEs in a market that is increasingly driven by major suppliers. The decision to bank on high-growth sectors such as security and defence also allows businesses to put their expertise to good use. The strategy underlines how important it is to be able to count on the many international leaders already present in our territory, while trying to attract other major innovative businesses. We are optimistic about the future of the aerospace industry.”
“The financing announced today will also support the growth of companies with strategic projects,” Michel Leblanc said. “All international aerospace centres, whether France, the U.S. or Brazil, enjoy significant public support. It is essential that local players be able to count on the same support to compete on a level playing field with foreign companies.”
“This announcement comes on the heels of the Government of Quebec’s commitment to Bombardier’s C Series program,” Mr. Leblanc said. “The Board of Trade calls on the federal government to commit as well and to waste no time in announcing its financial support for this innovative industrial project, the most growth-generating in the country.”
