The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, in collaboration with the Office québécois de la langue française, has awarded the prix Mérite du français dans la PME award to the Centre Régional de Récupération et de Recyclage Laval
Companies established in the Greater Montréal region with fewer than 50 employees and active in the manufacturing, retail or service sectors were eligible to apply for this award. They had to demonstrate their efforts to enhance the use of French in their operations through concrete actions taken between January 1 and December 31, 2009.
The Mérite du français dans la PME award was presented to the Centre Régional de Récupération et de Recyclage Laval
The Centre Régional de Récupération et de Recyclage Laval (CRRRL) is a social integration organization in Laval and has been helping people who have tremendous difficulty integrating into the workplace. The Centre's team noticed that these individuals, most of whom are immigrants, were having trouble finding permanent jobs because of a language barrier. The Centre decided to look for partners to help its clients improve their French and thereby make it easier for them to find work.
Special mention to Centaur Theatre Company
Centaur Theatre Company has been staging plays for Montréal's Anglophone community since 1969. While most of its team members are English-speaking, the growing number of Francophone spectators has prompted the company to embark on a francization program in order to better serve this clientele.
Most of the theatre's employees are participating in the French in the workplace program. As such, once a week they take a break from their duties to attend a class in an effort to improve their French.
