Warren Cromartie, an Expos player from 1974 to 1983, founded the Montreal Baseball Project in 2012. His goal is to help bring a Major League Baseball team back to Montréal.
To mobilize the business community, Mr. Cromartie approached the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. As the Board of Trade plays a leading role in the city’s economic development, it agreed to mobilize a group of talented business people to study the conditions required to bring Major League Baseball back to the city.
On March 20, 2013, working with Ernst & Young and BCF, the Board of Trade launched an initiative to thoroughly and objectively analyze the potential and viability of bringing baseball back to Montréal. This effort led to a market study among the public and the business community, a feasibility study and an analysis of the economic and financial spinoffs (in French only) of the project. These studies were financed in full by the private sector.
