Montréal's arts and entertainment district:
Another promising curtain raiser

Montréal, October 24, 2008 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted that work is scheduled to begin soon on 2-22 Sainte-Catherine Est, the focal point of Montréal's new arts and entertainment district.

“I am particularly pleased by the progress made recently in the finalization of the Quartier des spectacles; with the construction of the 2-22 building by next summer, the intersection of Montréal's “Mains” will take on a whole new look. Along with the work now being done at the Place des festivals, the vocation of an entire downtown sector will be consolidated, not only stimulating Montréal's cultural vitality but also energizing the whole metropolis,” declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“The construction of this building will finally complete the reweaving of the urban fabric in this sector in the heart of the metropolis, where hundreds of thousands of Montrealers and visitors from around the world will be entertained and enjoy festivals not seen anywhere else in North America,” added Hudon.

“In addition to celebrating the building's important cultural vocation, it's interesting to note that particular care will be devoted to the quality of its architecture as well as its sustainable construction. I believe this is a concrete example of new ways of approaching sustainable urban development that will endow the metropolis with high-quality architectural elements,” concluded Hudon.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
