Montréal, October 25, 2013 – During a business luncheon held by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal as part of BDC Small Business WeekTM, the President and CEO of the Business Development Bank of Canada, Jean-René Halde, stressed the importance for Canadian entrepreneurs of planning their business’s growth.

“Last year’s edition of BDC Small Business WeekTM emphasized the decisive role of investment in small business growth,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “This year, Mr. Halde very effectively illustrated how a well-planned growth strategy is essential to a company’s development.”

“The road that leads to business success is lined with challenges and many crucial stages,” Jean-René Halde said. “For businesses to excel and position themselves among the key players in their market, they have to establish a solid game plan, drawing on the support of renowned experts.”

“This is the framework in which the Board of Trade delivers direct support to entrepreneurs through its Info entrepreneurs centre,” Michel Leblanc said. “Our team serves a diverse business clientele across Quebec by providing it with free strategic information at every stage in a company’s growth.”

Mr. Halde’s presentation was followed by a discussion moderated by Michel Leblanc with two Montréal entrepreneurs who have successfully executed their growth strategy. These two small business leaders are Simon Lamarche, Partner and Co-founder of Adviso, and Frederick Mannella, President of LXR & Co.

“These two entrepreneurs have demonstrated vision,” Michel Leblanc said. “The essential lesson that their counterparts in other SMEs should take away with them is that an entrepreneur’s appetite is never satisfied. Current successes are just steps along the path to higher summits.”

The 2013 edition of BDC Small Business WeekTM in Montréal is presented by the Business Development Bank of Canada in cooperation with Investissement Québec.

 

In 1979, BDC business centres in British Columbia’s Lower Fraser Valley pooled their resources to organize a week of management training sessions called “Small Business Week.”

 

Encouraged by the event’s success, the province’s business centres repeated the experience the following year, tripling the number of activities. In 1981, BDC officially launched Small Business Week nationwide.

 

Every year, BDC Small Business WeekTM takes place during the third full week of October.
