The Virgin name has been a part of the British and global economic landscape for 40 years now. It was in 1970 that Richard Branson, at only 20 years of age, founded what would become one of the most recognized and influential companies in the world.
In the beginning, the Virgin brand served as the name of a mail-order record service, which then went on to become a British record store, and a recording studio. The Virgin Music label quickly rose to great renown on the music scene.
Today, the Virgin empire is made up of over 200 companies in 30 countries, and its activities have extended into various spheres including leisure, travel, tourism, telephony, music, and several other media. Now involved in several causes through the Virgin Green Fund and Virgin Unite, Richard Branson actively contributes to society’s economic and social development.
